Did you know that August 10th is National S'mores Day? It's true! I happened to notice that it was coming up just in time so we were able to put together a S'mores Day / End of Summer bash with some of our closest friends. You can do the classic graham/mallow/chocolate version, or do what we did, and build out the Ultimate S'mores Bar for your party!
We made signage and custom laser-engraved marshmallow roasting sticks as party favors. I bought these ones in bulk on Amazon and engraved them with my Glowforge. You really just need to embrace the s'mores pun if you're going to throw this shindig.
We were lucky this year, that the 10th landed on a beautiful Saturday that also happened to be the last weekend before Max started back at school. A last bash before everyone gets back to the busy-ness of school year, we had a wonderful day.
Ahead of the party, we brainstormed our must-have ingredients to make the ultimate s'more.
S'mores Bar Ingredients
For marshmallows, we had a variety: Classic Jet-Puffed, JUMBO Jet-Puffed, and these cool Stacker Mallows I found. Those are all standard marshmallows, just different sizes/shapes, so we wanted to have some really different ones too. We got a couple of flavors of Smashmallows, and last but certainly not least, Stuffed Puffs! They come with the choclate ALREADY IN THE MIDDLE OF THE MARSHMALLOW and they make s'more magic all on their own! If I'd had more time, I would have made some of my homemade marshmallows, but I'll have to save that for next year.
For outsides, we needed options here too, of course. Regular graham crackers of course, along with chocolate grahams, Ritz crackers, Nilla wafers, Oreos AND Oreo Thins.
For additional toppings, we had the works! Chocolate bars, peanut butter cups, coconut, Ghiradelli Caramel Squares (both Milk and Dark), York Peppermint Patties, peanut butter, lemon curd, cookie butter, banana, and, of course, bacon.
While people were free to design their own dream s'more, we also made some recommendations on our “Need S'more Ideas?” menu board:
The definite winners of the day were the Fat Elvis I designed (Peanut butter, bacon, banana, marshmallow) and the lemon meringue, which was the creation of Amiyrah over at 4 Hats and Frugal. Interestingly, both of the winners are non-chocolate!
You can purchase the files for both the S'More Ideas board and the Ingredient list right here.
Turns out that when you have about 15 kids under the age of 12 making s'mores in your backyard, they make kind of a mess…
…but we loved every moment of it! Until next summer, when I'm sure we'll have s'more ideas! (I told you, embrace the puns!)
