I dodged the morning sickness bullet.

I was thrilled! Aside from a 36 hour flu bug in mid-December, I've been feeling really great so far! (19 weeks today, BTW)

A couple of weeks ago, I noticed that my eyes were acting weird… it's like when you close your eyes and push on the lids, you know how you get those grey floater-y things? I have those all the time.

A couple of my books said to expect some eye issues; the lens can thicken in pregnancy, and the actual fluid of the eye can change, causing vision changes. I casually mentioned it to my OB at the ultrasound last week, and he suggested it was “increased intraocular pressure” and to make an appointment with an opthamologist ASAP.

I saw the eye doctor on Tuesday, and (aside from having the bedside manner of a prison guard) he told me that, in fact, my optic nerves are swollen in both eyes and that I needed to have an MRI as soon as possible. This swelling has a variety of causes, and the 2 that this doctor chose to mention to me were a brain tumor or eclampsia. No pre-eclampsia, full blown straight to the big one.

Awesome.

So I make a frantic trip to see my OB… he doesn't think it's a tumor (feel free to say this in that Schwartzanegger voice from Kindergarten Cop) but he needs me to have an MRI anyway, to prove that it's “not a tum-ah”

So here's the plan for now; I get an MRI tomorrow morning to show I don't have a brain tumor. What Dr. Puza thinks I *do* have is excess spinal fluid, which is putting pressure on my optic nerves, causing the swelling. He is pretty sure it's all pregancy related and that it'll all go away come July.

The treatment for this excess fluid? Well, remove it of course! Through the lovely medical procedure known as a spinal tap.

Awesome.

So I'm looking at monthly spinal taps and another med to be added to my slowly increasing daily stash of pills. (Dr. upped my BP med and put me on a new beta blocker last week… I'm up to 9 pills in the morning and 9 more at night. As long as I can take them all in a single handful, I'm OK. It's when I have to do 2 batches that I get annoyed.)

Anyway, that's all I've been dealing with… the week last week started out so great, with the news of our son, but then all of this has been transpiring.

So we'll see! I'll update when I have more information.
