When I was researching for this post, I kept coming across awesome boozy advent calendars, but NONE OF THEM SHIP TO ME! (Actually, it's not that they won't, it's that once I spend $200 on a calendar I simply can't justify an ADDITIONAL $120 to get it to me.) I posted this complaint on Facebook (because isn't that how we manage disappointment in this day and age?) and my friend Michelle from Honest & Truly made a comment about making her own.
Basically, I dropped what I was doing and headed to BevMo to buy as many airplane bottles of booze as I could get my hands on. It was so fun!
The project itself is easy. I got these little red and green gift bags, and used my Silhouette to cut the numbers out of cardstock, then glued them on. I'll display all of the bottles in this silver basket I found, but any container will do!
Instructions
I've got the cut file of the numbers available to download, right here, for Silhouette owners. There's also a “Cheers to Christmas” header that I ended up not using, but it might work better for your container!
The actual process for this couldn't be much simpler; once the bags are all numbered, just put the bottles into the bags and staple them shut! I tried really hard not to pay too close attention to what days I put what items, but I'll also confess that I totally put my beloved Bailey's Irish Cream in the last bag, so I know it's coming.
Pile the filled bags into your container, and wait anxiously for the first of the month so you can start your countdown!
The bottles
These are just the ones that I semi-randomly selected from all of the available options. I couldn't justify $10 on a single bottle, for some of the finer scotch options, which is why I ended up with things like 99 Apples (which was less than $2) and the Peppermint Schnapps. Don't judge our drinking style based on these bottles! lol
- Sailor Jerry Spiced Rum
- Dulce Vida Pineapple Jalapeรฑo Tequila
- Jack Daniel's Tennessee Fire
- 99 Apples
- RumChata
- Square One Cucumber Vodka
- Gran Gala Orange Liqueur
- Glenmorangie 10
- Avion Silver Tequila
- Larceny Bourbon
- Malibu Coconut Rum
- Kinky Pink Liqueur (the scariest one in the bunch)
- Pamaย Pomegranate Liqueur
- Kahlua
- Peppermint Schnapps
- Tito's Vodka
- Jameson Irish Whisky
- Tuaca
- Chambord
- Grand Marnier
- Old Smoky Apple Pie Moonshine
- Crown Royal Vanila
- Bailey's Irish Cream
- Woodford Reserve Bourbon
All of these supplies together came in at just under $100; if you wanted to switch it out for a more affordable option, you could also grab a mixer pack and use those bottles instead. If you've got a decently stocked liquor cabinet at home, you can use the mixers to blend up some fun cocktails for your countdown. These mixer packs are out in force this time of year, because they make such a great gift.
