Woo hoo for Easter! This, like so many other milestones this year, was the first time Max really “got” the whole egg hunt, Easter bunny thing, so we had a lot of fun with him!
He's also got the “stubborn boundary pushing 3 year old” thing down, so he didn't get to color eggs himself this year, since he ended up going to bed early the night we planned to do it.
Jamie and I took care of the dyeing, with the intention of having him stick stickers the next morning…
Lesson: Don't use the styrofoam egg carton for dyed eggs; they never quite dried, so the stickers didn't stick, and we tried to use Sharpie to let him decorate them further that way, but that also failed. We need to stick with the paper cartons, so the extra moisture can escape and let the eggs dry completely. I also think I want to try some of the natural dyes next year; beet juice and the like.
First thing Sunday morning, we headed to my parents' house for breakfast with everyone; the Easter Bunny had stopped by just moments before we got there, so all of the kids came out to the front porch to find their baskets!I The Easter Bunny grabbed these Diego stickers at the grocery store on the way to my parents house; we stopped to buy some “festive bread” per my mom's request, and when I saw these, thought they'd be the perfect non-candy finishing touch for his basket!
After admiring their new loot (and covering PapaNana's living room floor in jellybeans, puzzle pieces and goldfish cracker crumbs!) we started the egg hunt. Their new backyard is excellent for egg hunting, and I can easily see this yard being useable for a bunch of years with egg hunting!Once the eggs had all been found (and all those hidden accounted for!) we went inside to turn the bounty into a family favorite, devilled eggs! Max and Faith were put on peeling duty…
Max quickly proved himself the most overzealous peeler ever…
…so he was removed from that task and Katie stepped in to help.
Max was relocated to yolk removal duty, which he did an excellent job with!
Faith was then in charge of the yolk smashing station
After breakfast, Papa brought out the helicopter, of course, and kept the 3 small people entertained until the copter battery pooped out..
then it was Jamie to the rescue with some story time!
A few quick family shots…
I seriously think I need to blow this one up:
And them we were off to the Compound for the 1st Annual Eggstravaganza Party, and we had, as always, an amazing time! Lots of kids, egg decorating, a sandbox, a beautiful day…A little Elton John channeling…
And it (as always!) ended with a major jam session! Max takes an accordian lesson from his future father-in-law, Ric.
So all in all, a very busy but super wonderful day! We're blessed to have such wonderful friends and family, and look forward to the next gatherings!
Great Pics! Looks like y'all had a blast!
Hey you… we did the natural dye eggs this year! I put some photos up on my blog.
