Visiting Things

A couple of months ago, Leanne had mentioned, either on Twitter or her blog, that she wanted to send Thing 1 and Thing 2 off on a worldwide adventure, a la Flat Stanley.

Once I read more and realized she wasn't talking about her actual twins, but two stuffed toys, I signed right up! I've been waiting for my turn, and checking in on their adventures from time to time. I got them from Georgia, and send them off to Minnesota on Monday.

My apologies to the Things… going from our gorgeous California weather to Minnesota's… ummm…. not. (Disclaimer: I've never been to Minnesota; my cousin lives there, so how bad could it be? Then again, he's from Canada, so I can't make any assumptions. Hrm.)

OK, enough chit chat… wanna see what we got up to on our Bay Area jaunt?

I brought them to work with me on their first day… not the most exciting thing, but I accidentally left them in my car after receiving them in the mail and I was afraid someone would spy their awesomeness and break into my car to get them, so they spent their first California day hanging out on my desk, revelling in the admiration  and attention they got from my co-workers.

Our Lego man collection, wanting to get in on the action, gave them what many might not consider a warm welcome, but the Things had a great sense of humor about the whole escapade.

When it was time for bed, we snuggled them into their sleeping bags and put them to sleep.

Wednesday was really the exciting day! We headed into San Francisco, where the things got to take a real cab ride, even though the driver thought we were absolute nutcases.

I had a Girls Night planned with my dear friend Leila (@DontSpkWhinese) from dontspkwhinese.com, because she had flown up special for a couple of publicity events we wanted to go to… when we had trouble checking into our hotel room, we decided to have mimosas at the hotel bar, where Thing 1 and Thing 2 had a chance to meet Leila's famous wookiee.

The first event we hit was an Ubisoft video game preview; it's all top secret and confidential, so no photos, but they had fun, as did we, especially since there were Jello shots and sliders involved! 🙂 After the Ubisoft event, we headed over to Klout HQ!

Yes, seriously. Klout HQ, where all of the pseudo-magic happens! The Things developed a taste for free PBR, and discovered that they have a combined Klout score of 69. (snicker)

After our crazy time in The City with Leila, she had to fly home, and we had to drive home…

Thing 1 tried to go for a ride on Geoffrey, but soon discovered he was not the dinosaur they thought he was, but rather an incredibly lazy house cat.

I started to worry that the Things were missing their native Canada, so we brought in a special friend to visit for a while; a Lego lumberjack, who stopped by to say “Hello, eh?”

And last, because we had so much fun taking pictures, the Things asked me to give them a photography lesson (really; I'm just THAT amazing) so I got one of our Lego ladies to model for us so I could teach them the basics.

So we had a great time hosting the Things, and I look forward to seeing the next leg of their trip, in lovely Saint Paul! Thanks to Leanne for letting me be a part of the fun!

  1. Love it!

We had a Travelling Ted going in my Year one class for a few years running. The things that bear got up to – oh my!

  2. Just for the record we have had the most gorgeous amazing fall ever here in MN. Of course by the time they get here it could be below freezing.

  3. And to think I was afraid to admit that I, too, gave Thing 1 and 2 alcohol.

Great pics! Love the Wookie, too!

  4. I love this kind of shit. (Wait. Am I allowed to say shit here? Geez. On my first visit ever I spew out the S word in my first sentence.)

My sister in law has a little Ron Burgundy that we always take out with us. He is quite a drinker and I bet he would also be a score of 69 on Klout.
