Ten things I learned at my first bootcamp workout

I started a new bootcamp workout class this morning.
Six a.m. is really freaking early, you guys.
So here are a few things I learned on my first day:

  1. I need to buy a better workout top. The one I wore today is OK for the treadmill at the gym, but bootcamp is no treadmill! No one needs to see my belly as my shirt rides up, and I feel like I spent a lot of time tugging and pulling on it. (Recommendations welcome!)
  2. Donโ€™t say dumb things to the trainer. He will make you hurt. I grabbed a 15 lb kettlebell, and he saw me and said, โ€œHave you held a 20 lb baby? You can do 20 lbsโ€ and I (stupidly) said โ€œI can do anything with a 20 lb baby!โ€ so now he wonโ€™t let me do anything with less than 20 lbs. Remind me not to tell him that Max weighs 40 lbs.kettlebell
  3. My form is much better on the first circuit than the third.
  4. I can do 16 sit-ups with a 9 lb medicine ball in 60 seconds.
  5. Iโ€™m determined to make the ropes my bitches.ropes
  6. I wish Iโ€™d brought a notebook to write down all of my reps, so I can compare in a few weeks. Iโ€™ll probably do this tomorrow.
  7. Getting my workout done first thing in the morning sets a different tone for my day, in a good way. I feel like if I can do that, I can do anything today.
  8. I should consider hiring someone to come wash my hair afterwards, because raising my arms already hurts.washinghair
  9. This is one time when driving Jamieโ€™s teeny tiny car stinks. It is LOW. ย While I can fall into it after class, it just means I have to climb out of it when I get home. It was easier at 27 weeks pregnant.
  10. I canโ€™t wait to go back tomorrow!

Have you tried a bootcamp workout? Did you like it?
I think a big part of why I enjoyed it so much is because I feel like I have concrete numbers I can use to measure my progress, which is something that I never really get on the treadmill or stationery bike at the gym.

    1. I had to take breathing breaks, for sure.
But having a trainer there bugging me to work harder is a great motivator!
I wimp out when I try to do it on my own.

  1. I haven’t tried boot camp, but I had a trainer a few times YEARS ago. I can’t imagine getting one now. I probably wouldn’t be able to walk the next day. My typical work-out is a lame 2 mile walk and lifting some weights, so that it doesn’t hurt. I’m pathetic.

    1. Not pathetic! You just need to find what works for you!
I knew I wanted something to really challenge me, so I think I’ve found it!

  2. I haven’t tried a “bootcamp” workout but I recently started with a new trainer and it is a similar feeling. I made the mistake of lifting the ten pound weight with too much ease and now he has me doing everything with 15 lbs…for me that is quite heavy. My arms have been killing me! But, working out is good for ya right? No pain no gain…I guess…

  3. Well, perhaps your trainer at boot camp doesn’t know Max weighs 40 lbs., but your co-booter now does! See you in the a.m. I’m rootin’ for ya!
