I love Thanksgiving. I love having a house jammed full of people, eating and drinking and just spending time together.
Every horizontal surface is covered in food, every possible seating surface is in use.
We laugh and celebrate and give thanks, and I love every minute of it.
We have lots of local family, so we tend to make the rounds every year, and we're off the hook for hosting this time… we'll still chip in though, and I'm always interested in saving money, especially when I'm providing for 10 or 15 people! This is why Lucky Supermarket‘s #FreshFinds Mix & Match wine and spirits savings are such a great deal! If you buy 4 bottles, you get 10% off (even sale prices!) I picked up a Cupcake Vineyard Pinot Grigio; it's normally $11.99, but it was on sale for $8.98, and then I saved another 89ยข with the mix and match offer! Such a bargain! This savings applies to any combo of wine (including boxed) or spirits! For this shopping trip, I picked up a couple of options to pair with our Thanksgiving dinner, and a couple of other bottles to keep on hand for other guests who might drop by this holiday season.
We're actually doing a mini-Thanksgiving a week early, with my in-laws, since they'll be out of town for the actual holiday. It will just be five of us for dinner, so it isn't as huge a production as the full Thanksgiving, but I still want to put some thought into it.
I want to have both red and white wine options, so I chose a Zinfandeal and a Pinot Grigio.
I don't like Chardonnay at all, so I find Pinot Grigio to be a great white option for me. The flavor is strong enough to stand up to the onions and garlic we love to put in everything.
There's nothing that goes better with a juicy steak than a robust Cabernet, but this is Thanksgiving, so we're talking turkey instead. A good Zin is a great match for turkey if you want a hearty red to go with your meal.
If you aren't a wine drinker, but would prefer a cocktail with your meal, I love something that we were introduced to on our honeymoon in Dublin, Ireland. We use Jameson, but any Irish whiskey with cranberry juice is a lovely mix that is great for this time of year. You can lighted it up a bit with a splash of soda water, for a refreshing punch-like beverage.
What's your favorite Thanksgiving pairing?
That’s a great price for Cupcake wine! I hadn’t thought of Lucky as a place to go for wine before but that’s the closest store to my house. I will have to check them out.
