littleBits Unboxing

This post is in partnership with littleBits and contains affiliate links.

I'm not going to lie; I've been looking forward to this age for a long time! Just like we were excited when Max got old enough for real LEGO, we're now super excited that he's old enough for cool projects like those that come from littleBits.
The littleBits Gizmos & Gadgets kit is a great introduction to inventing and electronics, for kids as young as Max, or as old as the oldest kids at heart. Everything is color-coded and magnetized, so it's easy to build your circuits and make the parts work together to make whatever you want.
Max's first project was a little fan; the instructions said it's a 5 minute project, but really, it didn't even take that long.

The kit includes everything you need, but here's a tip: buy more glue dots. Getting the included dots to cooperate was the most frustrating part of our builds; a roll of double stick tape would work just as well. (In the fan's case, it's only used to hold the battery onto the mounting board; everything else just clicks in place with little feet that latch into the holes on the plate.

The littleBits kit is a great introduction to electronics, how circuits work, and it allows Max to problem solve while trying to make his creations work.

He's fascinated by those sign spinners in front of the local pizza place, so he was really excited to build this sign spinner to promote his Perler bead business. (Hover over to see the other side!)

All of the pieces are clearly labeled with their functions, so it makes it easy to put together your own inventions; just think about what functions are needed and find the right piece to make it happen!

This is a great gift for the aspiring maker/engineer in your life, and I'm so excited to be partnering with littleBits to give away a complete Gizmos & Gadgets v2 kit!

Be sure to click through to the littleBits website to check out everything that comes with the kid; the new version 2 includes app-enabled inventions!

These look awesome! I can tell you right now that Tyler would LOVE to make the super secret safe. I don’t know what it is he wants to protect so much, but he LOVES looking at buying safes. This would be a much better option because he gets to make it! 🙂

Welcome, I'm so glad you're here! Thing number one, I'm tall. I've been told I should have a warning on my blog, so here it is! I am taller in real life than I appear on the internet.
