Woo hoo! I'm so excited! I found out recently that I've been chosen to be a member of the Shaklee180™ blogger team!
What is Shaklee 180, you ask? Well, Shaklee has been around for years; they're the #1 natural nutrition company in the US, and Shaklee 180 is their weight loss program. I've been following along with some bloggers who have previously used the program, and seeing their stories has totally motivated me and gotten me SO excited about this.
I'm not going to say I've always struggled with my weight; there was a time in my early 20s when I was FAR too skinny… now, of course, time and motherhood have taken their toll, and as I approach my 36th birthday this summer, I find myself bigger than I'd like to be, and it's time to be more proactive in getting the weight off.
I did the I Will Rock This challenge with some friends last summer, and did pretty well; I lost almost 40 lbs in just 2 months, but my motivation for success there was only the prize money. I cut carbs, did body wraps, ran and rode my bike, all in pursuit of that prize. But when July 1 rolled around and the challenge ended with me in 2nd place, I went right back to my old habits. Diet Coke made a reappearance in no time, I was unable to resist the lure of the office snack closet, and BAM! It's been barely six months and that weight is back, with a few of its friends.
It is time to make some real changes. As Max gets older, it's more and more important to set a good example for him. As Jamie and I get older, we need to be more aware so that we don't find ourselves getting older and our weight getting out of control.
We think you CAN teach an old dog new tricks, and we're just the old dogs to do it! I'm really looking forward to using Shaklee180™ to get me on that path to the new me.
The program officially starts next week, on March 1, but I've been preparing myself for the changes ahead of being on the program, so I'm ready to go full speed ahead!
There are a couple of things I've done, and I couple of things I've picked up, in my preparations for these changes.
- I read this great book, The Power of Habit by Charles Duhigg. I'm not normally a big self help person, but this was absolutely fascinating to read and brought up some really interesting points that I plan to use to help me create new, good habits to replace the old ones.
- I've heard great things about this Blender Bottle, so I got one to have to make my shakes on the go. While the shakes *can* be made with ice in a blender, having a good way to make my shakes at work is going to help me succeed.
- Of course, I need to get moving too! Thankfully, the weather is getting better by the day, so it won't be as difficult to get out and moving. I picked up one of these Fitbit One devices. It will help me make sure I'm moving *enough* to help the Shaklee program do its thing!
- Little changes every day: I'm taking the train one stop further than usual, adding a few more blocks to my walk to the office. I'm also planning to walk on my lunches more often; the Fitbit tracks the number of steps I do every day, so I have a goal to reach, which I know really works for me.
So that's the big excitement around here! I can't wait to get started, and to share my journey with you!

I’m interested in following this exciting adventure. I have been using the Body by Vi shakes for almost 6 months and I love hearing about other products. We’ll be here cheering you on!!!
Looks like I need to pick up one of those Blender Bottles too! So excited to be doing this with you!
Me too! And I think I’m actually going to get 2 of the bottles, since I KNOW I’ll forget one at work! LOL (Same reason I have 2 travel mugs for my coffee! LOL)
Congrats! I have a Fitbit One (just got it) and love it. Best wishes on your journey! VERY exciting!
I have the Fitbit Ultra and really does a lot to get you moving. Especially if you have friends and you see their step counts. Congratulations on being chosen.
