I’m a musical theater geek, over the rainbow edition #ad

My sister and I grew up on musical theater.
First it was Sound of Music, where we sang about our favorite things and we didn’t understand the Nazi bad guys.
Then we moved on to Oklahoma, and we sang about something called a “surrey,” which we were unclear on, but anything with fringe can’t be bad at all.
By junior high, it was Les Miserables, when our parents gave us the cast recording and tickets to see it live. We re-enacted the entire show, after listening to the CD until it was practically warped. We argued over whose turn it was to play Cosette, and perfected an inexplicably cockney accent for Gavroche.
We caught Phantom of the Opera fever, along with seemingly everyone else in the early 1990s, and it’s been beloved ever since.
Simply put, it’s in our blood.
It’s because of this ongoing love of musical theater that I am SO excited to check out Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Wizard of Oz, opening next week in San Francisco. The songs I love, tweaked with Weber’s famous style? Yes please! The staging looks incredible, and I’ve yet to be disappointed in an SHNSF production.
My sister and I have a “grown-up date night” to go to the show on opening night, and I can’t wait! She has been my singing partner since we were 3 and 5 and taking turns being Leisl. She’s the soprano to my alto, the Eponine to my Cosette, and now she can be the munchkin to my Dorothy. (Yes, she’s the munchkin.)
Want to check out the SHNSF production of Andrew Lloyd Webber's Wizard of Oz for yourself? Of course you do! You aren’t just dreaming, it’s playing from Oct. 16-23 at San Francisco’s SHN Orpheum Theatre (one of my favorite venues!) 1192 Market Street. Go to www.SHNSF.com, or call Audience Services at 888-746-1799 for ticket information.
Disclosure: I received two tickets to opening night of The Wizard of Oz, no further compensation has been received. Also, because I called my sister a munchkin, I now have the Lollipop Guild song stuck in my head. That’ll teach me.
Technichally, you’d be the Eponine to my Cosette.
And I’ll take being the “Munchkin” over the Wicked Witch any day!
Dang! I almost made you the Wicked Witch to my Glinda, too! 🙂
oh I swoon over musicals. In fast last week I was in the dumps (do this this horendous move we are in the middle of) and I took an afternoon off and watched Sound of Music. Enjoy Wizard of Oz!
Ohh! So tempting! If only it weren’t quite so expensive.
