A have a few girlfriends, I'll call them… ummm… Josie, Falynn, and Janet. (OK, those are totally their real names). A while back while sitting in a darkened movie theater waiting to watch all three Twilight movies back to back at a midnight showing, (Yes we're all over 30. Wanna make something of it?) we coined a phrase.

Embrace the Crazy.

Janet travels to far off cities (OK, Los Angeles) to see her favorite band perform. And she dyes her pale blonde hair all sorts of crazy colors, just because she can. She lives her life in a way that inspires me. Some people might think it odd (crazy), but I think she's awesome, it was for her that we call it “embracing the crazy” (And Falynn has a Jacob action figure that she's been known to carry around in her purse. Yeah. I just put that on the internet.)

In the intervening months, I find ways to embrace my own crazy… I've got a board on Pinterest where I try to embrace my own, and here's what I've come to realize: I'm an even bigger geek than I thought!

I have kind of a thing for Doctor Who (and Photoshop, apparently) as evidenced by my board, and why not? He's adorable, he's British, and he has a sonic screwdriver flying phonebooth. (Sorry- the first one was just too dirty! ;))

So anyway, when Amanda, proprietress of Geek Details, offered to send me a set of coasters, I couldn't resist and of course, wanted the Doctor Who set! The just arrived today, and Jamie and I are both in love with them!

They're nice and sturdy, marble, with the design on them… people who aren't “in the know” might not get it, but I love seeing a Cyberman or the Tardis peeking out from under my wine glass coffee mug.

My particular collection has the Tardis, a Dalek, K-9 and a Cyberman, and I adore them! They're really interesting and I can't wait for some of my Who-lovin'  friends to come over and notice them! But here's the thing! If they're cool enough to read my blog (like you are!) they might not care about mine, because THEY HAVE THEIR OWN!

Amanda has graciously offered a set of coasters to one of my readers, AND a coupon code for everyone else!

Get 15% off your entire order from her shop from today until Nov. 15 with the code amiafunnygirl

  1. Oh Lizz, maybe your house and my house are twins? We have a sonic screwdriver sitting on top of the television (the light up Tardis is upstairs in the computer room!). Shhh, but the Desktop Dalek is already stashed away in the closet for Christmas for my husband. Oh and Don’t Blink!

  2. Okay, so I went through every single item she has in her shop. I definitely have a love for geek and not only love the Dr.Who coasters, but also the vintage dictionary & steampunk ones, and those buttons! Love the So Say We All, I Miss Firefly, and Their, There, They’re is a difference….they all rock. :>

  3. I embrace the crazy, but every day comes with it’s own different kind. And I’ll cheer someone on for celebrating their own. :> (Oh yea….and in addition to the above comment, there’s a vintage GIrl Scout book in her shop too….though, I gasp at what was expected of girls back then…..I so would not have survived ‘back in the day’!)

  4. Your whole shop is incredible, but I REALLY like the Doctor Who coaster set…the one w/ all 4 designs.

How do I embrace the crazy?

I’m 36 years old. I have a rock band. I still believe that it’s a good enough band that the dream of being successful with it shouldn’t die. I write songs about things I feel strongly about, but I write songs about silly things and geeky things, too. I wrote a song about hipsters and geeks. I wrote a song about my love for the films of John Cusack. I also wrote songs about my awesome marriage, my amazing single female friends who can’t seem to find a good man, loss of innocence, feeling alienated by people you love…I embrace the crazy by believing that all these things can go together. ๐Ÿ™‚

Again, love your shop…I’ll be stopping in there and here more often. Peace to you.

  6. oh how I love that expression “EMBRACE the CRAZY” …..yea. it’s the only way to make it through this life of mine.

those coasters are fantastic, I do hope someone just as SPECTACULAR wins them!!!!
    xo

  7. I’m seriously digging the ‘psychic paper button’! ๐Ÿ™‚ Hilarious! Also the Vintage Russian Mosin Nagant Ammo Pouch would be a pretty kick ass touch to my costume, and let me not carry a purse.

I think I have a ‘pan-national’ crazy- A friend threw a burlesque show that included a (Tennant) Dr. Who kinking out with a hot dalek (best costume EVER!), as well as a super sexy Darth Vader tease behind a screen, backlit. Everytime I begin plotting my impending Tardis tattoo, something else pops into my head (such as a mixer/wooden spoon/whisk version of a skull and cross bones) that would announce my crazy flag as flying! ๐Ÿ˜€

  8. I embrace the crazy in my way of getting things done. Sometimes my husbands watches my methods and just shakes his head in confusion at the perceived crazy. I prefer eccentric.

I also embrace @geekdetails’ crazy blue hair!

  9. I so need the Dr. Who coasters.I love the Doctor!! And every time I say I will not like the newest edition I end up falling in love.My husband is starting to paint the Tardis on the wall of my kids’ room.Once that is complete on to a Dalek-EXTERMINATE!!

  10. My crazy? I believe in ghosts. Not just….I believe in the possibility of ghosts…I have had multiple experiences with different ghosts in different locations & at different ages.
