When I was growing up, I did a lot of camping, between my family and Girl Scouts.
When you do that much outdoor time, it's easy to get burned out on hot cocoa made from powder, so we were always looking for alternatives… ya know, since coffee wasn't really an option.
I even went through a phase where I drank hot liquid Jell-o, just for a change.
This Russian Tea was a favorite in my Girl Scout troop when I got older; it's cozy and delicious, and I love it as an option on these chilly afternoons.
This recipes makes a LOT fo mix, so you can package it in cute Mason jars and share it… I keep it in a plastic tub and am keeping it for myself. ๐
Simply mix all the listed ingredients and store in an airtight container; add about 2 Tablespoons of mix to a mug and fill with hot water.
- 1 jar Tang
- 3/4 C. Instant Tea (I prefer with lemon)
- 1 C. Sugar (you can adjust this to taste; I don't like mine too sweet)
- 2 T. Ground Allspice
I was just thinking of this yesterday! I was feeling nostalgic about this. What size is the Tang package?
It’s the standard grocery store package; right around 1 lb I think?
The container is 5-6″ tall. ๐
The recipe we used in Girl Scouts added a package of dry lemonade and used ground cloves instead of allspice. I still make it every year and drink it all winter.
