I've been posting these little jewels of conversations on Facebook; sometimes it's just too many steps to create a whole blog post, so here's a random collection from the last month or two…

“Can we watch {insert one of about half a dozen TV shows here*} It's Nick on Demand! Nick on Demand! Need help Mommy? It's Nick on Demand!”
* The requested TV shows range (in order from most favorite to lesser favorite): Dora, Diego, Backyardigans, WonderPets. Used to include Max and Ruby, but I weaned him off that by telling him they were sleeping. :-/)

I just changed the channel on the TV.
Max: “I don't wanna watch the news!”
Me: “It's not the news. It's Friends.”
He looks at the TV (opening credits)
Max: “No! Those not my friends! Animals my friends!”
Insert foot stomp right…………….^ there

“I want some {insert whatever I'm eating} too! Can I have some? What do I say? Please! Can I have some {food name} too please? Thank you!” (This whole monologue happens all at once before I hand him a piece of whatever I'm munching on, usually crackers, cheese, toast or the occasional cookie)

Me to Jamie: “You wanna make some eggs?”
Max to me: “OK!”
Me to Max: “Alrighty then. Get on it!”
He runs off to the kitchen…. comes back a moment later. “Um. I don't remember.” “Remember what?” “What eggs means.”
So I guess we won't be adding ‘chef' to his resume! LOL

Getting in the car, and Clapton's “Layla” came on… Max said “I want new music!” so I asked for his request. “How 'bout Journey?” LOL

Max just stopped, mid-tantrum, to say “Hey! That's my butt!” Once again, he is his father's son.

Walking with Max through the lingerie dept at Kohls… What is he *yelling* as we walk? “Boobies! Boobies!” He is his father's son.

Max was just calling Jamie “Sir,” and Jamie said “You can just call me Daddy.” “OK, Sir Daddy!” When did Jamie get knighted?

Max lines up his wooden letter blocks… “What's this spell?” he asks me. I look over and tell him “Umm… zoopimu” “Right!” he says “Zoopimu! Zoopimu zoopimu zoopimu!”

More “What's that spell?” with The Boy
Oh, and this spells “Max,” thanks for asking!

Of all the things we say that Max has picked up on, I think that “There's poops in my doops” is my favorite!

Max just walked up and asked me “What joke means?” and I told him it's a story that makes you laugh. He said “I love to laugh!” How to explain that I love hearing him…

Jamie just came downstairs, all dressed for work… Max looked up from his playing and said “Hey! You're handsome!” Love that boy.

Max just told me that this says “Zoo”
A case could be made saying that he's right! LOL

Max calls Target the “Pharmacy Store” because he once asked me what the word said on the outside of the store. Today, I got a soda at the snack bar, and let Max have the ice left when I finished my drink. He's calling it “Pharmacy Ice” LOL

“He loves me, Mommy!”
Poor cat! I don't know why he puts up with it! (I think he just likes the attention)

Max singing a song: “Row Row Jelly Jelly Stream”

Max's new greeting of “I'm so happy you're here!” melts me.

Max and Geoffrey playing the “Follow Me Geoffrey” game…
Going on 10 minutes of the 2 of them making laps around the house. LOL

Me (to Max): You're such a little mimic.
Max: I'm not a little mimic!
Me: Yes you are! You're a copycat!
Max: I'm not a copycat!
Me: You're my echo
…Max: Not an echo!
Me: You say everything I say
Max: I don't say everything you say!

The new Microsoft phone commercials have Max walking around saying “Really?” But he actually says it “Reawwy?” so he's saying “Kids say reawwy, mommy says really”

Max just walked up to me and said “Hi Mommy!” to which I replied, “Hi Peanut!” and then he said “I'm not Peanut! I'm Maxwell James P____!”

I'm not crazy about Max's current not always saying “Thank You” phase, except that he's replaced it with “You're the best!”

  1. He's so adorable! I have scraps of paper with things my kids have said or misspelled when going over spelling lists. Gosh, they crack me up! They are my biggest inspiration for story ideas.
